Video Transcript for Checking Out the 2" Hitch Ball

Today were going to take a look at the Curt 2-inch hitch ball, part number 40038. This hitch ball is 2 inches in diameter. It has a shank diameter of 1 inch, and a shank length of 2 inches. The wrench flats, as you can see here and here, are 1 5/8 of an inch apart. This item has a weight capacity of 12,000 pounds. It features fine threads for more holding strength.

It meets US V5 specifications and it is tested for safety. Now were going to bring in our ball mount and our trailer hitch demonstrator to show you how this would be installed. You would just slide the shank into the ball hole, place the washer, the washer and the nut do come with this item, and then finger tighten that, and once youve got that as tight as you can get it by finger tightening, you would get your wrench and tighten it the remainder of the way so you can use it with your trailer coupler and attach your trailer. That should do it for our Curt 2-inch hitch ball, part number 40038.

  • Recommended Extended Ball Mount or Hitch Extender for Towing Boat Trailer
For your 2018 Tahoe and boat trailer needing a longer extension between them I recommend the Brophy Ball Mount for 2" Hitch - 3/4" Rise, 2" Drop - 13-1/4" Long - 10,000 lbs # BM20. Having a longer ball mount like this will not reduce the capacity of your hitch at all. This will give you a length of 13-1/4 inches from the center of the ball to the hitch pin hole. For a compatible hitch ball the shank needs to be 1 inch diameter for this mount. I recommend the 2 inch ball # 40038 or...

  • What Size Ball Coupler Does Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer Currently Come With
I checked with Yakima to verify and the Rack and Roll Trailers like the part # Y08106 that you referenced comes with a coupler now that is designed for 2 inch hitch balls. At one point it was 1-7/8 inches be they have since changed that. The info you found was incorrect and I updated that page that you mentioned. When the trailer is setting level the top of the coupler down to the ground will measure 22 inches so you will need to go with a ball mount that will allow you tow the trailer...

  • Availability of Ball Mount with 4 inch Rise with 2 inch Hitch Ball
Hey Art, we can help but we don't have a ball mount that has the ball pre-installed and torqued in the configuration you are wanting. So you would want to start with a ball mount that has a 4 inch rise like the TowSmart # TS78FR and then add a 2 inch ball to it with the part # 40038 and you'd have what you are looking for.

  • Recommended Ball Mount for 2021 Subaru Outback Towing Trailer with 15-1/2 Coupler Height
I have a solution for you, but there's not a ball mount with exactly a 1-1/2" drop. The goal is to tow your trailer as level as possible, so using a ball mount like the one that comes in the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989891 that comes with a 2" drop would work just fine. This kit comes with both 1-7/8" and 2" hitch balls to allow you to cover trailers with different coupler sizes, plus a hitch pin, clip and storage bag.

  • Husky Spring Bars Compatibility with Trailer Hitch Weight of 476 lbs
The Replacement Spring Bar for Husky Towing Round Bar Weight Distribution Hitches - Qty 1 # HT31521 are designed for trailers with a total tongue weight (loaded trailer tongue weight along with any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle) between 801 and 1200 lbs. These bars will be far too strong for your trailer and could cause a rough ride and even some wheel bounce. I definitely do not recommend them for your trailer. My recommendation is to use a system more suited for your...

  • Can a Front-Mount Hitch and Adapter be Used to Push a Trailer Into Tight Spots?
You certainly aren't alone having a bit of trouble backing up a long trailer. Using a front-mounted hitch is fine, but the Blue Ox adapter, # BX88132, is designed for flat-towing so it isn't going to work for you. What you can do instead is attach a fixed ball mount, and the Draw-Tite # 80248 is going to give you 9-3/4" of rise. Please keep in mind that the Draw-Tite has has a max gross towing weight (GTW) of 3,500 lbs and max tongue weight (TW) of 350 lbs in the rise position. If you...

  • Recommended Tow Dolly for 2007 Toyota Prius behind 2017 Toyota Sienna
The tongue weight of a tow dolly is minimal because it has the weight of the front of the tow vehicle across the axle. So you will have almost no tongue weight when using the Roadmaster Tow Dolly with Electric Brakes # RM-2050-1. You will simply need to account for the towing weight of the 545 lb # RM-2050-1 along with the 2,932 lbs curb weight of your 2007 Toyota Prius. Your 2017 Toyota Sienna has a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs, so you can use the # RM-2050-1 and be just under your...

  • Can Trailer Hitch from 2010 Volvo XC60 Be Used on 2012 XC90?
We do have a hitch fit for the 2012 Volvo XC90, but unfortunately the 2010 Volvo XC60 and and a 2012 XC90 use different hitches. For the 2012 XC90, I'd recommend the Curt Class IIl hitch, part # 13559. If you'll be towing with the hitch, you'll also need a trailer wiring harness, part # 118411, a # C45010 ball mount and for a trailer ball, use # 40038 for a 1-7/8 or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System For R-Pod With 315 Lb Tongue Weight
When choosing a weight distribution system you wan't to find a system that is rated properly for your loaded tongue weight. You want the loaded tongue weight to fall in the center of the range that the weight distribution system spring bars are rated for. The Curt systems that you have mentioned part # C17499, part # C17500 and part # C17501 are all overrated for your tongue weight if it's 315 lbs loaded. Although the Curt systems are really great options there is not a system rated low...

To start with, the Westin Fey Diamondstep Rear Bumper # 20002-92230 will fit your 1997 Ford F-250 HD so long as it is a standard bed model. The Curt hitch # 14001 is also a fit for '97 F-250 HD's that have step bumpers such as the Westin (I've attached a photo which shows the hitch on a truck with a step bumper) and will work for you so long as you have the larger 37-3/4" frame and not a 34" frame. • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For A 2023 Jay Flight SLX 154BH And 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe
Hi Lynn, The Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # C17499 is rated for more than twice your trailer's GVWR so it would be too stiff to help you properly distribute the weight. The trailer's GVWR is 3,600lbs and your Santa Fe only has a 3,500lb towing capacity so you'd really need to minimize what you bring with you to avoid overloading its capacity. For the hitch I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # FA92-00-0450. This has a 4,500lb GTW...

This Class III hitch is confirmed to fit your Lincoln Town Car and it features a towing capacity of 4,000 pounds. • How to Increase Height of Trailer Hitch Ball to Allow Boat Trailer to be Towed Level
Ideally a hitched trailer will be level to the ground. We often recommend starting off with the hitch ball being a bit higher - an inch or so - than the top of the coupler on the level trailer since once hitched there will be a degree of squat in the rear of the tow vehicle from the trailer tongue weight. This is perfectly acceptable. You can select a different ball mount for your hitch that gives you additional height (rise) by using the link provided at right. For example, if you want...

You can get the ball mount with part # 391BMU5S and then a 2" ball like # 40038 to get just those parts needed to tow, but if Audi doesn't have a wiring option, the # 391CONVE5 would include everything you need. • Can I Tow a 2017 Jayco Hummingbird 17FD Without a Weight Distribution System?
For your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, a weight distribution system is not required with the light weight of the travel trailer. However, the reason why many would choose to use a weight distribution system on a trailer that is 2,900 lbs is to help control sway from crosswinds and passing motorists. Because it is a rented trailer, you may not want to deal with the additional setup or cost but adding a system like the Fastway e2 # FA92-00-0450 will absolutely help with sway control and will...

  • Trailer Hitch and Tow Capacity of 2018 Lexus RX 350
I Googled the owner's manual for a 2018 Lexus RX 350 and it said the maximum towing capacity was 3,500 lbs, and the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13272 has a 4,000 lb towing capacity so you will not have any problems using this hitch for towing less than the 3,000 lbs you mentioned. That said, we do recommend verifying all towing capacity information with vehicle manufacturers as they have the final say on these matters.
